The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 52-year-old Orlando Covington, who has reported an address change to an apartment on South 2nd Avenue in Mount Vernon.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Covington a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.”

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Covington murdered 14-year-old his victim in Virginia in December 2001 and he was sentenced to 40 years in state prison in September the following year after being found guilty of second-degree murder, which he unsuccessfully appealed in court. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Mount Vernon City Police Department.
