MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A study to look at a possible makeover for the East Third Street area of Mount Vernon, couldn't find much to salvage in the area except for the East Third Street Station near Fulton Avenue, according to lohud.com.

The study, which will guide the city's rezoning efforts for the area, said the station had potential to land on the National Registry of Historic Places, but severe damage the to building's front, might prevent that from happening, said lohud.com.

Officials hope to change the area from East Third Street between Fulton and Columbus avenues, which is currently commercially zone, into an area featuring midsized apartments with ground-floor businesses and restaurants in an effort to draw residents to the area, added lohud.com.
