MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - A pair of convicted felons have been hired to work for the City of Mount Vernon this year, according to a lohud report released this week.

A consultant was hired by the Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency (IDA) who had previously served time in a federal prison for corruption, according to the report . A second consultant was reportedly hired recently despite a conviction for negligent homicide for an incident involving the death of a construction worker in Manhattan

According to the report , Alfonso Prestia began work this summer, doing code enforcement inspections for the IDA, which is headed by Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas.

The IDA recently came under fire after approving a trip for Thomas to fly to Dubai that cost the city more than $10,000.
