MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Portraits of past Mount Vernon's mayors have been removed from storage and remounted on the walls of City Hall after their removal for a Black History Month exhibition by local schools, according to Lohud.com.

The portraits were returned after some city officials objected, saying it was improper to remove them, said Lohud.com.

City Clerk George Brown wrote to Mayor Richard Thomas to inform him of the impropriety, stating that it's the responsibility of the City Council to decide what the different rooms of City Hall are used for, added Lohud.com.
