MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis is facing a maximum of two years in prison after pleading guilty on charges of failing to file federal income tax returns, according to the U.S. District Attorney Preet Bharara.

Davis admitted that he knowingly failed to file a personal federal income tax return for the tax year 2011, when he earned approximately $106,743 in adjusted gross income, according to Bharara.

The 76-year-old Davis said he willfully failed to file personal returns in 2011 and corporate returns in 2003.

Davis' lawyer said the plea will not have an impact on the his ability to continue serving as Mount Vernon mayor, according to a report on LoHud.com.

Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 26, according to Bharara.
