MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The taste of Mount Vernon's drinking water continues to impress, as it recently was named the “Best Tasting Drinking Water for a Metropolitan Region.”
The contest was Tuesday in New York City, where judges blindly tasted samples of drinking water. The contest was sponsored by the New York Section American Water Works Association, in coordination with the New York State Department of Health.
The victory qualifies the city to compete for the state championship Aug. 29 at the New York State Fair in Syracuse.
Mount Vernon’s water was deemed the best in the competition, topping New York City and several Long Island entities, including the Suffolk County, Woodbury and West Hempstead water departments.
In May , Mount Vernon was determined to have the best-tasting drinking water in Westchester County, topping Scarsdale, United Water in New Rochelle, Cordtlandt Consolidated Water District, White Plains and Yonkers in a blind taste test of 172 county residents.
Anthony Bove, the commissioner of the Mount Vernon Board of Water Department, did not immediately return inquiries from The Daily Voice.
