The break occurred Tuesday just north of E. 3rd Street near the intersection of Grandview and Vernon avenues, according to Commissioner Anthony Bove the Mount Vernon Board of Water Supply (BWS). Crews were on-site to excavate and inspect the damage, he added.

Bove said customers should not drink water that is "brown" or "cloudy" or use it in appliances, but wait until it comes out of the faucet clear.

Customers who water has been affected by the break were notified by the city, the commissioner said.
