Mount Vernon Tears Down So-Called 'Zombie' Home

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- There are dozens of unsightly abandoned homes in Mount Vernon, and the city’s mayor is seeking funding to either tear them down or fix them up, according to a report by lohud.

Abandoned, or "zombie," houses not only bring property values down, they can be dangerous, say local officials. Mount Vernon, which is targeting about 40 of these homes sprinkled throughout the city, razed one recently that, it said, was hazardous.
