MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. Mount Vernon residents complained Wednesday night to the City Council about a foul odor emanating from the intersection of North Third Street and East Prospect Avenue that they say is making the neighborhood difficult to live and work in.
Resident Shanese Coleman said the cab stand on that corner smells of urine, and the scent is so strong that when Food Town puts its garbage out, the area smells like death, especially when the sun comes out.
People came to me to come to the City Council to bring this issue up, Coleman said. It is horrible and smells like dead carcasses. People are also utilizing the garage across the street as a bathroom.
New Rochelle resident Michelle Coleman, who works in the area, said she has called the state to complain and representatives of the state should have been there to inspect the area already.
Its the worst thing ever, she said.
Council member J. Yuhanna Edwards, chair of the council's Public Works Committee, said he would bring the issue up to the Department of Public Works.
Council member Richard Thomas said the residents are right and he will ask the state Department of Health to alleviate it as soon as possible. Council member Deborah Reynolds said the problem will be dealt with in a timely manner.
