The Mount Vernon Corporation Counsel assisted Consumer Protection Officer Michael Paulercio last week in busting the cigarette selling operation, confiscating thousands of cigarettes that were being sold illegally without New York State tax stamps.

According to Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas, “operations like these are known by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to fund terrorist groups overseas.”

“The bust is evidence that fighting global evils like terrorism requires not just a national effort, but a local one as well,” Thomas added.

“The City of Mount Vernon will continue to ferret out these and other types of nefarious terrorist funding operations contributing to our nation's efforts to cut off these organizations from their illegal money sources here in our city. Mount Vernon will not be complacent to this type of activity.”
