MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Several Sound Shore schools entered into lockout protocols Friday as the manhunt continues in Mount Vernon for Leroi Bouche, who police said has been on the run since fleeing officers following a hit-and-run that left a Yonkers investigator injured.

Police have been searching for Bouche, 27, since approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday, when officials said he struck an investigator working with the county’s District’s Attorney office, several parked cars, and fled on foot.

Students in Tuckahoe are being held in their classrooms, while the Pelham School District entered “lockout” mode, which permits students to go about their day, but no one is allowed to enter or leave campus. Mount Vernon High School and Traphagen School remain locked down, with all windows and doors secured.

Bouche has a pending drug charge against him, and he was arrested in 2009 in connection to the murder of Shomari Knox, police said. He is being described as a 6-foot-3-inch African American with an orange hat, blue jeans and yellow shirt. It is uncertain if he is armed, but he is described as “dangerous.”

At around noon Friday, police officials towed a gray Infiniti with a smashed front end out of the rear lot of the Oakwood Garden Apartments on East Lincoln Avenue. It is currently unknown if that was the vehicle Bouche struck the investigator with.

A large section of East Lincoln Avenue was closed off near the Hutchinson River Parkway this morning as police searched for Bouche. A portion has since been reopened, but residents are warned to stay in their homes.

Helicopters, police dogs and several law enforcement agencies are being utilized in the search.
