Mount Vernon Library Closes Due To 'Building Emergency'

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Mount Vernon Public Library closed early on Wednesday because of an unspecified "building emergency."

The library's website said an "unforseen building issue" was the cause of the closing, adding that it should be open on Thursday. About $250,000 was cut from the library's budget when the 2013 municipal budget was adopted, but there is no confirmation that the library's early closing is related to that.

The Library Board of Trustees was supposed to meet Wednesday, but the meeting was postponed because of the building problem.
