On Friday, the DPW announced that they launched new Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts that will allow them to receive instant feedback from throughout the community. It will also afford officials the opportunity to alert residents to issues such as alternate side parking, garbage removal and snow clean-up.

This is the latest initiative under new Mayor Richard Thomas to streamline the city’s communication. Last week, he announced a means for residents to point out particularly problematic potholes on Mount Vernon streets through Facebook.

“We strongly urge residents to sign up to the city of Mount Vernon email alert system that will provide them with updates on various events and alerts going on in the city,” DPW officials stated about the launch. “This campaign will raise awareness of programs and other issues that the public may have had trouble accessing before.”
