Mount Vernon Cops Sued For Improper Handling Of Standoff

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A federal lawsuit alleges Mount Vernon police officers overreacted when they stormed into the apartment of an emotionally disturbed man and shot him seven times in 2014, according to lohud.com.

The suit, filed by Anthony Smith, claims officers barged into his apartment knowing he was emotionally disturbed, but mishandled the situation due to improper training, lohud.com reported. 

The lawsuit names former Mayor Ernie Davis, Sgt. Michael Marcucilli, Officer Timothy Briley among other unnamed officers, lohud.com said.
