According to recently appointed Mount Vernon Commissioner of Human Resources Rich Pogue, on Friday, following regular business hours, the trespasser gained access to an area of City Hall that contains sensitive, confidential documents.

The confidential legal and federal documents include personnel records, checks, disability records and related documents that contain social security numbers. City officials are still determining the extent and scope of what may have been taken or observed.

“Upon learning of this incident, it was determined that locks needed to be changed, not only for the area affected, but also for all of City Hall to ensure that authorized city workers only have keys to access their assigned area,” Pogue noted.

“We are actively determining if any important documents are missing. We believe it is timely to have such a review of appropriate access to ensure the ongoing safety of city employees as well as the importance of securing confidential and federal documents important to the operation of the city.”
