MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Road salt dripping onto the third rail of a Metro-North line is being blamed for a loud explosion that rattled windows in Mount Vernon early Monday morning, according to News 12.

The explosion happened on the tracks under the overpass at the intersection of South 6th Avenue and West 1st Street near the Mount Vernon East station.
