After receiving 226 of the 470 votes cast, McIntyre will take the seat on the board over incumbent Linda Bryant (174 votes) and fellow challenger Tamara Stewart (70). Additionally, the proposed $4.4 million library budget was approved with nearly 300 total votes in favor of the spending plan.
McIntyre credited his supporters for helping him earn a spot on the board, in spite of Tuesday’s rainy, dreary, weather.
“This victory would not have been achieved without the support of many (supporters) who braved the elements to cast a vote,” he said. “I cannot thank them enough for showing up at the Mount Vernon Public Library polling place and fully exercising the right to vote.”
There will be a special meeting of the Mount Vernon Public Library Board of Trustees on Thursday to officially approve the results of the vote. McIntyre assumes his spot on the board next month.
“I’m looking forward to officially assuming my Mount Vernon Public Library trustee duties next month,” McIntyre added. “Together, I firmly believe that we as a community can make a difference when it comes to the stewardship of our historic library.”
