There will be a formal candidacy announcement from Jones at 12 p.m. on the steps of City Hall. An announcement celebration will begin at 1 p.m. across the street at LVSIADAS Restaurant, featuring music from a DJ.
“Mount Vernon is a unique city that has many challenges,” he said to residents in a letter. “The citizens of Mount Vernon cannot afford the usual ‘finger pointing,’ division and continuing embarrassing moments from our elected officials.”
Jones has been a veteran of the Westchester County Department of Corrections for more than two decades, serving as a Union Delegate for 13 years for the Westchester County Correction Officers Benevolent Association.
“This is a critical moment in the history of this city. If we make the right choices and focus on the right priorities,” he said. “We can build on our strengths and move forward with innovative ideas that will make the city a model of economic vitality, community sustainability and political transparency.”
