New York State Police are investigating a fatal car crash in the town of Woodbury that killed an off-duty Rockland County corrections division sheriff deputy on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Frank Farina, 42, of Stony Point, was driving his car along Route 6 in Woodbury at about 1:30 p.m. when he suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head, according to state police.

Farina's vehicle then crossed the double yellow center line, left the roadway, and struck a rock embankment.  Frank Farina was pronounced dead at Orange County Regional Medical Center, police said.

The passenger, Jennifer Farina, 42, also of Stony Point, was transported by ambulance and treated for non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

The State Police's investigation into the incident and the circumstances involved is ongoing.
