Greenburgh Agrees To $6.5 Million Settlement With Mount Vernon Church

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Greenburgh officials have ended a decade-long legal dispute by agreeing to pay $6.5 million after a ruling that it violated the constitutional rights of a Mount Vernon church, according to LoHud.com.

The compensation will be to the Fortress Bible Church. The town said it could not handle traffic and safety concerns during the construction of a sanctuary and school the church planned near the Sprain Brook Parkway.

The church responded with legal action, saying the town interfered with the church's ability to practice religion and a federal judge agreed, LoHud.com reported.
