Dating back to 2014, crews have been periodically frequenting the city to make improvements, upgrading the antiquated pipeline in carefully determined parts of Mount Vernon.

Similar work has already been completed on Fletcher Avenue, from East Lincoln Avenue to Primrose Avenue. Now, the crews will shift their attention to Douglas Place, between Edgewood and East Devonia Avenues, where work kicked off on Monday.

While the work on the pipeline is in progress, Con Edison contractors will be using certain roadside areas as a housing area for equipment. As a result, Con Edison will be installing temporary pavement, as required, until street and sidewalk restoration is complete.

Work in the area is expected to last approximately one month before they move on to the next project. Property owners with private facilities such as sprinkler lines or electric dog fences buried in their lawn are advised to alert Con Edison officials.

City officials have warned residents that some excavation work may be required on sidewalks, driveways and lawn areas. Homeowners who have their lawn ripped up will have their property reseeded next spring.

If gas service is interrupted and the homeowner isn’t present, they can call 1-800-75CON-ED to have their service restored.

According to a statement from city officials, “Con Edison has assured (them) that they will make every effort to complete their work as quickly as possible, with a minimum of inconvenience.
