MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — Con Edison has announced a two-stage upgrade for gas mains and underground services in Mount Vernon.
The first phase is set for the end of Villa Street and continues to Westchester Avenue, and the second phase continues on Villa Street through Westchester Avenue and Livingston Street and ends at Rich Avenue.
Con Edison's work will include storing material and equipment roadside and could include excavations of parts of sidewalks, driveways or lawns.
The company aims to have temporary repairs for the first phase complete in four weeks, and second phase temporary repairs are set to be finished three to four weeks after the second phase starts.
Restoration of the area (streets, sidewalks and lawn areas) is scheduled for the spring.
Property owners should contact Con Edison if they have any private facilities, like sprinkler lines or electric dog fences, buried in their lawn.
Also contact the company if service is temporarily interrupted while the new gas lines are connected, but be aware that the company will need access to gas appliances to restore service.
The company will notify anyone in advance so that appointments can be scheduled when people are home. Always ask for a Con Edison ID before letting a person into your home.
Call 800-75-CONED (800-752-6633) if you're not home when crews' work has been completed and you need quick restoration of service.
