Body Of Eastchester Police Veteran Found In Cemetery

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- The body of an Eastchester police veteran was found in a Hawthorne cemetery, his death an apparent suicide, according to lohud.com.

Mount Pleasant police informed the Eastchester Police Department on Wednesday that they discovered the body of Sgt. Richard Morris, 61, in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Information about who discovered Morris' body and where it was found was not released, lohud.com reported. 

Morris, who joined the Eastchester department in 1978, was a senior officer who had received several awards and commendations, lohud.com said. 

Morris is survived by his wife Ann-Marie Morris; his sisters, Frances O'Sullivan and Patricia Corbin; his brother, Peter Morris; his children, Kelly Alwine, Jamie, Danielle and Francis Morris, Christina Overstreet, Melissa Gerken and Leigh-Ann Lembo; and seven grandchildren, Jake, Ryan and Keira Alwine, Andrew and Sydney Overstreet, John Gerken and Francesca Lembo. 

Visitation will be held at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:45 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville.
