Apuzzo was praised for her years of service to the community. She has been executive director of Community Service Associates Inc. for nearly two decades, providing more than 70,000 meals each year to disadvantaged families in the county.

The afternoon fundraiser included brunch and a fashion show for attendees. Guests included Mount Vernon City Council President Yuhanna Edwards, who presented Apuzzo with one proclamation from the mayor’s office and one from the city council.

Outside of her work with Community Service Associates, Apuzzo also created the counseling and therapy program The ABCs of Divorce, in which she helps individuals resume their lives after a marriage ends.

“The thing I like to do best is tell what I do, and why we do what we do at Community Services Associates,” Apuzzo said. “I never thought that I would be there that long, but over the years, you come to appreciate the people that we serve, and why we serve them.”
