The award was instituted in 1999 to recognize alumnae/i for brilliant accomplishments in their chosen careers. Judith Huntington, president of the College, presented the award.
After graduating from CNR, Duffy went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Communications at Boston University, and a JD at New York University where she was one of only seven students to be selected as a member of the Order of Barristers for achievements in oral advocacy and brief-writing.
In recognition of her outstanding service throughout her legal career, Duffy was appointed Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department of the New York State Supreme Court by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in January 2014. Her appointment was the culmination of many distinguished positions including her appointment and later election as Mount Vernon City Court Judge in 1998, designation as Acting Family Court Judge in 2003, election as Family Court Judge in 2005, and designation as Acting Supreme Justice in 2008.
In 2010, Duffy was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, 9th Judicial District. Her work in the legal profession includes litigation with the firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, pro bono work with Lawyers for Children, appellate work as special assistant district attorney for New York County, and as Litigation Counsel to Unilever.
She has also authored several legal works including a chapter on Entertainment Law in the prestigious commercial litigation series, a chapter on Trial Elements in a Bench Book for Judges, and several law review articles.
Duffy has always been an active member of the CNR Community, having served as a member of the Board of the Directors of the Alumnae/i Association and as Board Treasurer. She was awarded the Ursula Laurus Citation in 2001 and the Angela Merici Medal in 2006. She has presented on numerous panels at CNR, always sharing her knowledge and lending support to current students.
Duffy has done pro bono work for children in foster care, and has been a “big sister” for the Westchester Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. She is Married to Timothy Lynch, and they have three children.
