Mount Vernon Resident Recevies Farmingdale SUNY Award

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon resident is among eight professors and staff members at Farmingdale State College to be honored by SUNY with its Chancellor's Award for Excellence.

Matilde M. Fava, of Mount Vernon, has received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service. Dr. Fava is a 28-year member of the Department of Modern Languages, where she specializes in Italian.

The award is conferred to acknowledge and provide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence, according to the announcement. 

The awards provide SUNY-wide recognition in Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities and Teaching.

The winners are:

Dr. Robert A. Saunders, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities, Sea Girt, NJ. 

Dr. Matilde M. Fava, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service, Mount Vernon, N.Y. 

Dr. Kathleen Walsh, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Mineola.

Professor George Fernandez, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Ridge. 

Carol McNamara, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, Hauppauge. 

Theresa Zahor, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship, Huntington Station. 

Vanda Bordies, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service, West Babylon.
