To the editor:

I attended a public forum on the state of Memorial Field in Mount Vernon and the only thing that came out of it was my understanding that Mayor Ernie Davis has to go. Since he was re-elected, the city has seen its image steadily erode as well as the construction of Memorial Field.

Having a mayor with a criminal record who isn't held accountable has worn on the soul of our city. Public apathy and the hopelessness that has come from projects such as Memorial Field has sapped the willpower of many citizens. Mount Vernon has had many missed opportunities in its history, but voters should not miss the chance to remove the stain that has ruined our city, come election time in Mayor Ernie Davis.

It is time for a new way of thinking in this city, as neighboring cities have brought in new infrastructure and businesses that have helped lessen the burden homeowners have to pay to a deteriorating municipality. New leadership is needed and a community effort should be adopted that helps bring the best out of the people from Mount Vernon.
