Lovell was awarded a gold medal in the Classical Dance category at the NAACP Regional ACTSO Competition that was held at Lincoln High School in Yonkers.

The Mount Vernon resident will represent the city at the organization’s national dance competition in Orlando, Fla., during the summer.

According to the Mount Vernon School District, Lovell danced to “Claire de Lune” in her finest blue outfit.

“The judges watched in awe as this petite young woman gracefully danced across the floor,” said Vanessa Ridder, a member of the district. “They were all in agreement that Naya truly has a love of dance as they remarked on her form, alignment, articulation, stage presence and choice of music.”
