MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Haven Community Center will hold its monthly orientation for adult classes at 10 a.m.  Monday.

Haven Community Center Executive Director Jimi Orekoya said the programs include computer literacy courses, Bingo, yoga, Zumba, poetry, art, photography, health screenings and workshops.

Orekoya said with an increasing number of residents in Mount Vernon reaching the age of senior citizenship, there is a need for more comprehensive service.

Orekoya said people in the program will have their own care worker, overseen by a social worker or nurse, to develop a service plan designed for the individual person.

"Your care worker will talk with you, offer professional advice, and arrange all the long-term care services you may need in conjunction with your medical providers," Orekoya said.

A press release from the Haven Community Center said the program is meant to maximize a person's potential not only to socialize and participate in group programs, but to have a quiet space for reading, thinking or pursuing personal interests as an older adult.

Registration is between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays. Most medical insurance, long-term managed care, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.
