MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – With colleges out of session and high schools wrapping up their finals and graduations, Sound Shore millennials have big plans for the summer after a long, harsh winter.

Mother Nature was unrelenting this winter, forcing Sound Shore residents to endure storm after storm. Now with those memories fading, locals are ready to have some fun in the sun.

Mount Vernon native and Monroe College student Jaime Lincoln said she is ready for a break before the fall semester kicks off in September.

“Nothing is really planned, just relaxing a little bit before school starts up again.

"I’m sure (my friends and I) will head to the beach as often as we can and just hang out as much as we can,” she said.

In New Rochelle, Chris Ruiz said he’s ready for anything under the sun after spending his freshman year entrenched in the frozen tundra at State University of New York at Fredonia.

“I grew up here, so we always have pretty distinct seasons. At Fredonia, there was pretty much just winter. At least that’s what it seemed like for awhile there,” Ruiz said.

“I know we’re going to hit up the (Jersey) Shore in a few weeks; anything outside is good by me,” he said.

It won’t be all fun and games for students heading home for the summer.

New Rochelle native Victor Hummel, who will be a junior at Penn State in the fall, said his parents are making the most of his time in the house and putting him to work.

“I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m already ready to go back to school! Ever since I got back they’ve had chores for me to do every day,” Hummel said.

“It’s great to be home, though. We haven’t seen some of our friends since we were home for Thanksgiving.

"We’re only home a few weeks, so we have to make the most of them,” he said.
