The activities will kick off Sunday, April 12, underscoring the church’s values and commitment to its parishioners and the community at large. The celebration will convene some of the nation’s most prominent ministers from the New York area and beyond. The commemoration includes four worship services.
The times and preachers are:
- 7:30 a.m., the Rev. Johnnie McCann, pastor, St. Luke’s Baptist Church, New York.
- 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the Rev. Jawanza Colvin, pastor, Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio.
- 6 p.m., the Rev. Michael A. Waldrond Jr., pastor, First Corinthians Baptist Church, New York.
On Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m., the church will host a citywide community worship service and the guest preacher will be the Rev. Al Sharpton, founder, National Action Network. Themed “Pastor and People,” the celebration continues Sunday, April 19, with another full day of worship services.
The times and preachers are:
- 7:30 a.m., the Rev. Reggie Bachus, associate pastor, Abyssinian Baptist Church, New York.
- 9:30 a.m., the Rev. William Richardson III, pastor, Grace Baptist Church, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
- 11:30 a.m., the Rev. Dwight Jones, mayor of Richmond, Va. and senior pastor, First Baptist Church of Richmond.
- 6 p.m., the Rev. Adolphus Lacey, pastor, Bethany Baptist Church, Brooklyn.
“Under the leadership of Reverend W. Franklyn Richardson, Grace Baptist Church has not only been a house of worship and spiritual upliftment, but a source of advocacy, education and empowerment for the residents of the City of Mount Vernon and beyond,” said Richard Thompson, chair of the anniversary committee and chair of the Deacon Ministry, Grace Baptist Church.
This celebration comes on the heels of last month’s groundbreaking ceremony for Grace Terrace, the fourth affordable housing unit under the Grace Community Development Corporation. With the completion of this latest unit, Grace CDC will be providing a total of 400 affordable housing units in Mount Vernon.
