Dorothea Ferguson-Bell, of New Rochelle, is the executive vice president of Human Resources at Wartburg. She will participate in the yearlong academy, focusing on encouraging service innovation in the industry.

Ferguson-Bell has been a member of the senior management team at Wartburg since joining in September 2011. She is responsible for overseeing all human resources initiatives and activities.

The Leadership Academy is designed to address the shortage of new leaders in aging-service organizations through educational programs and mentoring workshops. The academy takes a person-centric approach to resident care as well as staff and client relationships.

All fellows will meet in November at the Leading Age Annual Meeting and Exposition in Dallas. After that gathering, the academy will meet quarterly during the year, where fellows will receive classroom instruction from industry leaders and will be paired with experienced mentors who can share their expertise.

David Gentner, the president of Wartburg, said that the nomination comes at an ideal time for the organization.

“Dorothea’s appointment into the academy comes at an opportune time as we are moving from a campus-based provider to a home and community-based provider,” he said. “
