Mary Kern, 91, Retired Librarian From Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - Mary S. Kern of Eastchester died March 31 at The Fountains in Tuckahoe, her residence of three years. She was 91.

Kern was a native of Toronto, Ontario and a graduate of the University of Toronto. In 1948, she married Hans Kern in Wyevale, Ontario. They moved to Eastchester in 1952 and they raised two sons there. Later, Kern earned a library degree from Columbia University and became a reference librarian at the Mt. Vernon Public Library.  

She had a keen interest in current affairs and was an active member of the churches she attended, most recently Zion Episcopal Church in Dobbs Ferry. She also pursued a wide range of theological studies.  

Kern is survived by her sons, John (Jane) Kern, of Eastchester, and Jim (Kim) Kern, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Hans.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on April 22 at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale.
