Make It Mount Vernon Night At The Apollo Theater

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon residents Keyon Wilson-Brown and Joshua Aaron will be featured performers at the Apollo Theater Amateur Night “Show Off” competition Wednesday.

In recent weeks, the pair has been competing against other amateur artists for the right to square off at the Apollo. The show will feature artists that have placed in the top four at those competitions.

Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis, the Department of Recreation and Commissioner Darren Morton will be sponsoring a bus to the theater, leaving City Hall at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Wilson-Brown, 12, is a seventh-grader at A.B. Davis Middle School. He has been singing rap and R&B since he was 6. He performs solos at the House of the Lord on Sundays and was the winner of the Mount Vernon Arts on Third Festival Talent Competition. Wilson-Brown also sang at the Mount Vernon Summer Breeze Concert Series this past summer.

Aaron got his start singing at church when he was 7 and has appeared on "American Idol." He has sung at the Village Underground and Café WHA? In New York City and was a backup singer for the Cassandra Lucas from the R&B group Changing Faces.

Group tickets will cost $23 and can be purchased Tuesday at the Department of Recreation. Individual tickets can be purchased online.
