Westchester County Parks Offer Events For Weekend

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Westchester County Parks has announced the programs scheduled for the weekend at county parks and nature centers.

“These programs not only offer opportunities for learning about our environment and conservation, but are nice activities for families and individuals to enjoy each week,” said County Executive Rob Astorino.

Saturday

  • Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Katonah, 914-864-7268: Friends of Lasdon Annual Plant Sale and Garden Show, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. A celebration of spring with annuals and perennials for sale, vendors, food and more. Rain or shine.
  • Croton Point Park, Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson, 914-862-5297: Westchester County’s Earth Day Celebration, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Informational booths, farmers market, raffles, art show and live music and entertainment. Info at 914-862-5290.
  • Lenoir Preserve, Dudley Street, Yonkers, 914-968-5851: Nature Photography for Beginners, 1-2:30 p.m. Bring your camera and learn how easy it is to take great pictures of nature.

Saturday and Sunday

Sunday

  • Marshlands Conservancy, Route 1, Rye, 914-835-4466: Spring Bird Migrants: The Second Wave, 7:30-9:30 a.m. Bring binoculars if you have them for sightings of the latest wave of migrating birds. Also, Spring Wildflower Walk, 2-3:30 p.m. Observe these beauties in bloom in their natural habitats.
  • Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers, 914-864-7282: Bird Walk, 7:30-10 a.m. Bring binoculars for this walk with naturalist Tait Johansson. Also, Children’s Theater Production, 3-4 p.m. Enjoy a play by the Children’s Theatre Group.
  • Lenoir Preserve, Dudley Street, Yonkers, 914-968-5851: Volunteer Day in the Butterfly Garden, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Join master gardener Mary Harrington to help get the garden ready for summer and learn how to start your own.
  • Cranberry Lake Preserve, Old Orchard Street, North White Plains, 914-428-1005: Ponding Exploration, 1-3 p.m. Look for and learn about all the aquatic creatures that live in South Pond.
  • Croton Point Nature Center, Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson, 914-862-5297: Archaeology Presentation, 1-3 p.m. “The Battle of Oriskany: The Archaeology of a New York Revolutionary War Site.”
  • Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Routes 35 and 121 south, Cross River, 914-864-7322: Crafts from Nature, 1-3 p.m. Children can hike the woods to search for natural materials, then make crafts to take home.
