MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The City of Mount Vernon has new emergency contact numbers, according to an announcement by Mayor Richard Thomas.

The phone numbers are as follows:

  • Life Threatening: 911
  • Non-Life Threatening (9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday): 211
  • City Back-Up/Community Center: (914) 665-2300
  • Department of Social Services: (914) 995-2099
  • United Way: 211 or (800) 899-1479
  • Westchester Emergency Center: (914) 864-5450

Residents are asked to observe the following rules for emergency vehicle accessibility:

  • Park vehicles close to the curb.
  • Do not block fire hydrants. Cleaning around fire hydrants will greatly assist in case of emergency.
  • Do not shovel snow in streets. Place snow in the "tree lawn" area.
