“Any time we get to engage our youth and show them positive alternatives it is a win for our community," said Mayor Richard Thomas. "I want to thank Grace Baptist Church for giving the youth of Mount Vernon an opportunity to learn and follow their dreams.” Mount Vernon City Hall participates in Job Shadow Day

Jordan Bozier accompanied Mayor Thomas, while Aaron Davis shadowed DPW Commissioner Ralph Uzzi and Mikayli Solomon and Marquise Williamson worked with Fire Department Commissioner Ernest Richardson.

The youth gained an inside look at the industry or career they are interested in pursuing by accompanying each department head in their daily tasks and functions.

“I am enthusiastic and eagerly look forward to introducing teens to the world of public works thru public service," said Commissioner Uzzi. "Events like Job Shadow Day give us that opportunity and are important to Mount Vernon’s future as its youth are its future. Give us more events like that.”

“It’s an honor to have two young men who are willing to shadow the fire department and learn about what makes our men and women the Mount Vernon’s Bravest," said Fire Commissioner Richardson. "As a product of Mount Vernon, it brings me great joy to be able to give back to our youth.”
