The event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, is hosted by the city's recreation department to encourage physical activity.

Registration is required. The cost is $10 in advance and $15 on site. There are a limited number of bikes available to rent for $15, which includes the use of a helmet.

The starting and ending point for the Bike-A-Thon is Gramatan Avenue and Broad Street.

The program began in 2012 as an effort to raise awareness of childhood obesity. About 60 people rode a loop that started at Maggie Spillanes's on Gramatan Avenue to Sidney Avenue up to Westchester Avenue and back during that first year.
