Now, thanks to that impulse, the health-care worker is a multi-millionaire.
According to New York lottery officials, Poblete matched all six numbers drawn, winning her the $7 million jackpot.
“I don’t know why I played that game,” Poblete said Thursday at ceremonies at the New York Lottery’s regional offices in Fishkill.
“I just picked the numbers randomly. They aren’t birthdays or anniversaries -- just random numbers.”
Poblete said she went to work the day after the drawing and left her ticket with her father so he could check the results.
She was at her job when she got a call from her mother telling her to “come home” because she had gotten all the winning numbers.
Poblete said she “just went numb” after checking her numbers online.
“I was so excited. It’s hard to explain, I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” she said.
Poblete purchased her winning ticket at Super 7 Express on Orange Turnpike.
Lottery officials said she chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment totaling $4,632,600.
Poblete said she plans to use the money to pay off her mortgage and travel.
The winning CASH4LIFE numbers from the May 26 drawing were 4-13-26-34-43 (Cash Ball 3).
The New York Lottery said it has contributed $30,611,838 in education aid to school districts in Rockland County this past year alone.
