According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in Mount Vernon are expected to peak at approximately 95 degrees on Monday and Tuesday before thunderstorms make their way to the region and break up the heat wave late on Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas said that the heat advisory in Mount Vernon has been extended through Tuesday.

“Temperatures at times will rise as high as the upper 90s, causing serious health risks, especially for the youth and the elderly,” he stated. “During this heat wave, please stay inside as much as possible, always stay hydrated and please regularly check on elderly neighbors, friends and family members.”
