Known as "Girls Embracing Maturity," the program is designed to help young girls avoid risky behavior. The money is given to Mount Vernon through a three-year contract from the Westchester County Board of Acquisition and Contract. The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau also will contribute money to the program.

The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau was one of 39 agencies in the county to apply for the money.

"To appreciate one’s own talents and capabilities is a challenge for young women in today’s society," said Iris Pagan of the Westchester Youth Bureau. This program helps young women develop this awareness.”
