Actors Sought For Auditions For Mount Vernon Play

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Actors and talented people are being sought to audition for August Wilson's "Gem of the Ocean" at the Rev. Shelton D. Doles Community Center Theatre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, March 28, April 4 and 15.

"Gem of the Ocean" is set in 1904 in the Hill District of Pittsburgh in the parlor of Eli, Aunt Ester and Black Mary's home at 1839 Wylie Ave.

Seven roles will be cast including Aunt Ester Tyler as the lead actress, Solly Two Kings, Black Mary, Eli, Citizen Barlow, Rutherford Selig and Caesar Wilks. All ethnicities are invited to try out for roles. Actors between the ages of 18-67 are sought for various roles.

Weekly rehearsals will begin Tuesday, April 7. Rehearsals will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Actors are asked to bring a head shot and a theatrical resume. Floyd Cromwell will serve as the director of the production.

The Rev. Shelton D. Doles Community Center Theatre is at 250 S. 6th Avenue, Mount Vernon.
