MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — The final phase of Mount Vernon's Jamaican Independence Celebration and a performance by Jazz group Ted Hefko And The Thousandaires are just a few of the things going on in Mount Vernon this weekend.

Friday, Aug. 3

Board Games and Puzzles : Noon to 1 p.m. Board games in the children's room. Mount Vernon Public Library, 28 S. 1st Ave., Mount Vernon.

Chat'N'Snack Book Club : 3:30 to 4 p.m. Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders can chat about a book and have other fun. Mount Vernon Public Library, 28 S. 1st Ave., Mount Vernon.

Ted Hefko And The Thousandaires : 11 p.m. Ted Hefko and his band share an exciting blend of jazz and blues at the Bayou restaurant. Cover charge is $5 to attend. 580 Gramatan Ave., Mount Vernon.

Carnival Fest : Noon to 7 p.m. Mount Vernon celebrates 50 years of Jamaican Independence with Carnival Fest. Hartley Park.

Sunday, Aug. 5

Jamaican Anniversary Service : 4 p.m. A special church service will be held at the Oneness Rehoboth Church. 125 East  3rd St.

50th Independence Day Jamaican Anniversary : 6 p.m. Jump Up music event is the final phase of the Jamaican Independence celebration. In front of City Hall, 1 Roosevelt Square.
