This year, The Chapel School has four members of the team running on behalf of The Chapel School’s Scholarship Fund.

“For many students, the cost of tuition requires that they either receive financial help or enroll in another academic setting which may not provide the academic excellence and emotional support that The Chapel School offers so well,” stated Principal James Dhyne.

Each runner must raise at least $3,000 each and collectively the team is hoping to reach and surpass $15,000 before running the 26.2 miles. Donations are welcome and are being accepted at www.teamchapel.com.

The team consists of the following runners:

Dave Porter, a high school chemistry teacher near Buffalo, N.Y. Outside of teaching, Portera started distance running in 2012 in preparation for completing the Buffalo Half Marathon. Since then, he has completed three more half marathons and most recently in June 2014 the Syracuse 70.3 Half Ironman.  George Heath has been with the Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School for 12 years. He serves as the cantor for the church, and music teacher for grades 3-8 at the school. Heath participated in the half marathon to raise awareness for the Arts program at the school, and is motivated to complete the full marathon.  Anderson Kenny is an architect who lives in Mount Vernon and practices in Manhattan. He is running to help raise money for the scholarship fund at Chapel School and to finish the New York City marathon, an item on his "bucket list." Anderson also ran a half marathon with Heath. Randy Watkins is a first time Team Chapel runner.  A longtime runner, this will be Watkins' second marathon and his first full marathon since he ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 1995.
