For a $1 entrance fee, teenagers can skate to music from 8:45 to 10:15 p.m. at the indoor ice skating rink.
“It’s getting warm out, and our young people need places to go,” said Darren Morton, commissioner of the Mount Vernon Recreation Department. “We’re offering a safe place for them to go to enjoy the start of their weekend.”
Teenagers must have a school or government photo identification to get into the skate. Refreshments and snacks will be on sale, and there will be free ice skate loans for the evening.
“I’m not so old that I don’t remember being young,” Mayor Ernest Davis said. “When you’re young, you want to hang out with your friends and have a good time. We’ve organized this event so the young folks can do that and be in a safe environment.”
