Mount Vernon’s Wartburg Kicks Off 150th Anniversary

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Wartburg is hosting its fall festival for the first time in 10 years from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. This year’s event will also kick off the 150th anniversary celebration of Wartburg.

The event will include local craft vendors, regional food trucks, information booths, raffles and plenty of entertainment for adults and children.

“It’s been a thrill to bring back this historic event,” David Gentner, president and CEO of Wartburg, said. “It’s the perfect kickoff to our 150th anniversary and the festivities surrounding it. We couldn’t have timed it better.”

The conference center, named in honor of the Rev. Dr. Dale and Yvonne Gatz, will also be unveiled.

“It’s an exciting time at Wartburg,” Pastor Carol Fryer, director of spiritual care and church relations at Wartburg, said. “It is truly a pleasure to be able to offer such an exciting, family-friendly day to our community.”

Wartburg offers a number of residential and community-based programs to the area’s older adults and their families. Among the services are independent living, assisted living, senior housing, long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, adult day services, home health care, pastoral care, memory care and caregiver support.

The Council for Creative Aging & Lifelong Learning programs at Wartburg have been recognized internationally. It was even named on a list of the Best Nursing Homes in New York State by the U.S. News & World Report, for three years in a row.

The fall festival will take place in any weather. Residents and families may also take advantage of free parking. Others may park in the monitored lots at Wilson Woods Park, 8 Bradford Road, off Lincoln Avenue, and at the municipal lot at Sixth Avenue and Second Street in Mount Vernon, with scheduled shuttles to Wartburg.
