MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Mount Vernon Public Library will screen the short 14-minute minute art film "Ellis," starring Robert De Niro, on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. in the Green Grace Baker Community Room.

Set in an abandoned Ellis Island Hospital complex and using JR Artist's "Unframed" art installations, "Ellis" tells the forgotten story of the immigrants who built America. It is the story of the ghosts of our country's past, the individuals who fled poverty, discrimination and dictatorship for a chance at a new life.

The film was written by Oscar- winner Eric Roth and directed by JR Artist, whose "Unframed" art installations serve as the set for this powerful and timely film.

The screening will be followed by a half-hour discussion by John Howard, professor emeritus at Pace University, State University of New York. Howard is the producer of the short film "Out of the Shadows."

Light refreshments will be served. For further information, contact Nishan Stepak at nstepak@wlsmail.org.

The library is at 28 S. First Ave., Mount Vernon.
