MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Mount Vernon Public Library will hold a special screening of the new short film "Ellis" starring Academy Award winner Robert DeNiro on Saturday.

The short-film, 14 minutes long, is written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth, and directed by JR Artist, whose unframed art installations serve as the set for this timely film.

Set in the abandoned Ellis Island Hospital complex, "Ellis" tells the forgotten story of the immigrants who built America. It's also the story of the ghosts of our country's past, the individuals who fled poverty, discrimination and dictatorships, for a chance at a new life.

The film will be followed by a half-hour discussion by John Howard, professor emeritus at Purchase College.

The film will shown in the Baker Community Room of the library at 3 p.m. The library is at 28 South First Ave., Mount Vernon. Admission is free.
