The Mount Vernon Public Library has been serving the public for more than 160 years. It is the largest library in Westchester County and the sixth largest library within New York State.

Andrew Carnegie donated $50,000 for the construction of the building in 1904, and in 2004, the Mount Vernon Public Library Foundation was incorporated by concerned neighborhood leaders who focused their energy and attention on providing private support to build an exceptional library in Mount Vernon.
