Mount Vernon Public Library Discusses 'Native Son'

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Mount Vernon Public Library is hosting a discussion of the novel "Native Son" by Richard Wright,  as part of its Black History Month observance.

A panel featuring Brian G. Johnson, Shawna Maria Aarons-Cooke, and library Trustee Darrell M. Morton will join the event on Feb. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Johnson is a former president of the library, Aarons-Cooke is a psychotherapist and author and Morton is a professor at the College of New Rochelle.

At the Grace Greene Baker Community Room, the Black History Month event will ask whether, "The conditions and circumstances that prevailed during Bigger Thomas's time still exist today."

Thomas was the main character in Wright's novel.
